  1. Hope you're back from your trip safely (or are you still out in NYC?)!

    Now for the question...

I made your chocolate chip cookie recipe--the one that is one of the first recipes you were given
(probably in 1966). Do you really get 50 cookies out of it? I got 26. I'm just a greedy cookie dough
scooper or what? I used soup spoon (not heaping) type dollops of dough. Maybe I should've used my
mini ice cream scooper that gives 1" balls of dough. I'd probably have gotten around 50 that way.

Another question...did your extremely gracious and generous hostess offer you any evening snacks
    this time :-)?

rona (still envious of all that hospitality)

I am home, thank you. Did Rob ever tell you I'm the luckiest person he knows? I arrived at LaGuardia
with two and a half hours to spare -- in time to catch an earlier flight to Minneapolis. It was 1/3
full and I had a row to myself and I managed to get my 50# bag of "stuff" in the overhead without
the help of the NWA flight attendant who pretty much said he wasn't available to help. When I got
off and was struggling down the aise with it (along with my wheeled carryon, winter coat, and heavy
purse) he stood and watched me. Jerk.

Yeah, I don't know where they get 50 cookies from that recipe, either. If you use 1/3 cup, you'll
get about 16. I don't usually bake big cookies; don't know the yield, but I know 50 is in
dreamworld. I usually use a teaspoon, kind of piled.

My extremely gracious and generous hostess had all kinds of evening snacks for me -- and I refused
to eat most of them. I did put away those incredibly delicious cherries last night, though. but I
don't eat that other stuff (smoked oysters, mussels, and clams) as a rule---just when I get a bug
for it. She kept me in TaB and I had the last two cans in my purse on the return trip. She also made
me eat the other half of her mango every morning. For all my telling her that I don't eat breakfast
much, she stuffed me every morning before we sashayed out for the day. Waddle, waddle.

Sam's got the potty thing figured out. She pees and says, "I wan' con'y." One M&M per successful
performance. I'll have to send you a couple funny pix that Beck sent.

NWA ain't called Northworst for nuthin! I had a similar experience with a UA flight attendant and
ended up with torn cartilage as a result.

Maybe the original size was for dainty-type people. I thought maybe my 26 cookies would spread and
be huge but they were like regular-sized cookies. If I had made 50 they'd have been teeny tiny! I
packed most of them to send off as Christmas gifts (along with gingersnap cookies from the recipe
Kay Hartman used to post, hazelnut linzer thumbprints, biscotti, my favourite florentine bar
cookies, and vinaterta). I only have a few left for my own consumption :-(. I think I'll have to
    make another batch.

From your posts, I think you needed all the extra energy that breakfast could give you! Plus mangoes
are extremely delicious, and you should never turn down a ripe one. It's bad luck (says me).
Margaret is not only gracious and generous, but she's also a very good caregiver!

I'll be waiting! Does she get something extra special for pooping?

    It's her specialty.

Nope. Last couple days she been informing the Parental Unit in Charge of her need. Tonight it was
after she'd bathed, brushed, diapered, and was in jams. "Potty, Mama." Mama was betwixt and between
and finally decided thatnot honoring the request would be counterproductive. She got her M&M and
didn't have to brush again. :-)

Her Grrr (can't say Grandpa) visited this weekend while I was gone and witnessed Beck show The Kid
who's in charge. She did another one of those "look you squarely in the eye while doing exactly what
she'd been told not to do" things. It sounds like it really hit the fan, though, when she threw a
toy at her mom--with malice a forethought. Rob was impressed with the speed with which Beck hauled
her up short and deposited her on The Rug where she does Prison Time. Little twerp!
