I just bought a new Redline Conquest Pro and it has a FSA Gossamer crank/bottom bracket set. There was some play from side to side crank arms (i.e. when I pulled between the frame and the crank arms I felt movement) so I loosened the pinch nuts and tightened it to remove the play. I did this on the advice of my LBS. I tightened the pinch bolts back up. However, after another 150 miles the slight play is back again. I believe that I have the tightening torques close but I don't have a torque wrench to make sure. There is no play in the connection of the crank arm to the bottom bottom bracket/crank (i.e. the pinch bolts are not loose). I plan to get my LBS to look at it but I am on vacation right now and to not have access to them.
Question - Is any play in the crank/bottom bracket normal (i.e. would there be a small amount of movement in the bearings). The amount I have can only be felt (not seen) and I am pretty sure that is it not something else moving on my bike when I test it. Another note, my wife and I both bought the same bike and both bikes have done the same thing.
Sorry if I got some of the terminology wrong. I don't have my bike maintenance book with me and I am new to bike maintenance.
