Looks like Franco may face a two-year ban for blood abnormalities. He was one of the most exciting riders over the past few years and the possiblity of doping, like all other riders is very disheartening, but certainly not surprising. The article below mentions abnormal values in Pellizotti "blood passport." Could someone explain to me what the hell a blood passport is?

Thanks

Franco Pellizotti faces 2-year suspension for doping - ESPN

That's cool, thanks so much

The blood passport is a great idea that's flawed in it's execution.

They collect samples over time and not only regular test for drugs but also compare various values like HCT levels to see if there are any parameters that raise suspicion.

The flawed part comes in the time frame things happen in. Apparently his suspicious tests came from before the 2009 giro and tour...

They should just test after each race..... because if they are going to use something like that it will be for a race so it will be in their system before during and after the race. Just as in other racing sports like nascar at the end of the race before they actually give the win to the guy or gal that finished first they go over their car with a fine tooth comb. So why not check their blood after a race?

Things aren't as simple as that look into it deeper you will be surprised at some of the things that go on, blood transfusions for one.
