powder paint aluminum frame?

some metals use heat treating to harden. you might try calling a local
metals heat treating shop, they are likely conversant with the
specifics as they might apply to you- I do know that they will have to
be careful after the heat treating to minimize warping caused but
uneven cooling

T6 is done at 920F for 9 hours. Powdercoating ovens aren't nearly hot
enough to alter the microstructure of aluminum, with the possible
exception of some Scandium alloys.

400F is not within that range; no problem:

Thanks for the link ... but from the link is the sentence below ....

"Artificial aging temperatures are typically about 320 Deg. F. Many
heat treatable aluminum alloys are used for welding fabrication in
their solution heat treated and artificially aged condition."

So if artifical aging is at 320deg won't 400deg change something?
When I was researching this on the web on one of the homebuilt
aircraft component sites a metalurgical (sp?) expert from an aircraft
inspection company said that powdercoating al was fine for thick over
built pieces but risky for lightweight high stress components ... and
since the web is full of great information and misinformation?
