PowerTap Compatibility Question

I'm considering a PowerTap. I've noticed that it seems to only be compatible with only certain wheels. Is this my misconception or will it work with just about any wheel as long as the correct wheelset type is ordered? I have a set of Bontrager Race X Lites and a set of Bontrager Selects wheels. I am hoping to use a PowerTap on one of these wheels.

If I have to have a certain kind of wheel, is there an affordable wheel that someone could recommend? I understand that "affordability" is a relative term. I appreciate any advice that is offered.

The powertap is a hub. It needs to be build into a wheel. You won't be able to use your current wheel, rim, or spokes. Keep it for a spare.

Bontrager does make a special wheel with the powertap hub built in, as does Zipp.

Most build a sturdy all-purpose (training and racing) wheel with an Open Pro or similar rim with 32 spokes.
