To potentially save someone else trouble in the future:
I just installed a PowerTap pro and mistakenly put it into cyclocomputer mode, not realizing I had done this I wondered why it wasn't working -
the "symptoms" were:
no "watts" display
speed values fluctuated randomly (25 .. 37 .. 42 so forth)
cadence mode did not work
transimission icon did not appear

after replacing all the batteries, i called
customer service and they solved my problem in 10 seconds.

solution: go to the cadence icon at bottom and hold "select" for two seconds!

Interesting...I had mine do that once and had no idea why. I guess I must have dorked around with the buttons enough to have reset it too. Thanks for the tip though. At least now I know what I did. :D
