I was wondering if any one could provide some guidance. My Powetap has not been picking up HR for a handful of sessions. I tried changing the battery in the strap but no use. It was absolutely fine before.

I get problems when after the CPU "FINDS" the hub and HR signal and I walk a way from the bike for a minute, then the CPU randomly goes into find every few to several minutes and sme times does not get the HR signal back.

Put it into test mode and see if you get a response on the display to the HR signal. I don't know what it is for yours but for the Pro it is supposed to be test mode 3 according to my old manual.

That sounds right so I guess one shouldn't power-up the CPU until just about to roll!

Hmmm, I think I'll have to try this out. I got all of 30 min of HR data from a 3 hour race I did on Saturday. Nice.

I did do a bit of a warm up then left the bike to pee before the start.

I've also noticed that when I ride next to someone else with a HRM on it disrupts my signal. I don't get their numbers mine just go away. I tested this today when riding with a friend. More often than not when I dropped behind him I'd get my signal back.

FWIW, I've had a couple CPU's quit picking up HR data and I emailed Saris customer support and they sent me a new CPU and gave me a return number to send the old one back when I got the new one.

So far I am absolutely blown away by their customer service. Truly top notch. This was actually a selling point for me as I read about their service here when researching what power meter to get.

    Cheers!

I just got off the phone with Saris. The thinking is that my CPU never "LEARNED" the HR strap propery and gets confused after it looses the signal.

And off course when all else fails change the batteries:rolleyes:

This may make sense for some of these similar problems. Worth a shot.

I had thought the CPU either had it or it did not. I will report after tomorrows Session.

For clarification, do you have the SL or the SL 2.4?
I have the SL and don't believe that it has a "find" feature, while it searches for the HR signal. That sounds to me like the SL 2.4, which is a coded HR signal and requires the CPU to "learn" the HR code, as well as the hub and cadence (if option is used).
BTW, it is not uncommon to get HR drops when riding with other's while using the SL (non-coded) HR set-up. The new SL 2.4 uses the coded, which should eliminate that issue.
I think that some of the responses you are receiving are mixing the instructions of the two units.

    That would be my bad.

I was talking about the Wireless. I was on 2 threads and did not read closley enough that this one did not say wireless or 2.4

    Sorry

On my SL I would get intermitten drops as is common place with out coding, particularly in a group. Don't sweat it as you really onl need HR if your PT is broken or maybe for an indication of recover or overtraining.
