So who was that moto rider in the red & black jacket? He stood by while Hoste, Gusev & Van Petegem (stopped with his foot on the ground) proceeded around the crossing but when the next 3 (Boonen, Ballan, Flecha) arrived, he jumped in front of them waiving his arms to stop them. It was all a setup to get 2 Discovery riders dq'd.
The uneven application of the rule shows the commisaires are in on the anti Lance plan too.
Deprive Discovery of all possible ProTour points to get them kicked out of le Tour.

The marshall probably assumed the first three would play by the rules and stop. When they went straight through he would have realised the trouble he would be in if someone was killed so made sure the next lot stopped. Obvious, really.

I wouldn't have assumed that if they were my friends. OK, especially if they were my friends.

I've just reviewed the video I recorded from France 2 (DVBS...15gb file!). it seems to me that the motorbike marshall only arrived in the nick of time & the Van Petegem group had drew abreast of him just as he struggled got off the back of the motorbike. He looked down the line & seemed indecisive and then does not appear to have tried to stop the riders, or he was still thinking about it as they crossed, followed by the Mavic neutral service on motorbike and a TV bike.
Luckily, he and a spectator were more composed when Boonen's group arrived. If they had not stood in front of the group and stopped them, they would surely have gone under the train. Literally, the train passed as the riders stopped and put their feet on the ground.
I'm still astonished that the organiser didn't have someone there much sooner.
