My _racing_ shoes are black, and cost C$20,
I've got a pair of Zero Gravity Ti brakes just 20g heavier than the M5
brakes in the catalog and their stopping power is extraordinary, so if
the engineering is done right and you're a weight weenie with $, it's
good stuff.
As far as the 1100g Lightweight wheels go, there was a review of these
in some recent competitive cycling mag (VeloNews, I think). Since they
are carbon rims, the reviewer used special brake pads. He reported that
since he was heavy (175+ lbs, IIRC) he melted the brake pads on some
long steep descent. I think I'd be afraid too :-).
