I have a question about oatmeal. I'm trying to stay away from processed food and was wondering if
the oatmeal I buy is processed. I know that "instant oatmeal" is processed and this I stay away
from. I buy oatmeal that says "old-fashioned" and "natural oats" on the cover; does this indicate
that it's not processed? I never trust manufactures. Thanks.

unprocessed oats you can buy. You can buy them online.George

Oat bran is the casing that is removed.
Steel cut oats are oat groats that are cut into smallish pieces
Old Fashioned Oats are groats that are steamed and rolled but not cut.
Quick Oats are groats that are cut into two or three pieces, then steamed and rolled

I buy organic steelcut oats at a bulk/health food store. I guess they don't
have all the roughage of hulless, but I understand they have a lower
glycemic index than that of rolled/ processed oats. You have to cook them
about 20min-1/2hr, but they have a better texture than rolled oats IMO. A
pat of butter, a teaspoon of maple syrup (not too much, watching my sugars)
and a little cinnamon and it's a good bowl.
