Me too. Jobst's and others disdain for these is really a mystery to me.

Don't bet on it. The ability to make a standard rim tubeless compatible is now
a heavier and very unreliable method, when considering 100psi+ tires.

Mavic will foist these vigorously, as they wanna sell their goofy wheels.

I thought we were going to be riding "Tubiesto clinchers."

How long does it take to fix a flat with these now, and how much of a kit does
one have to carry to do it?

Since the current ones are good enough for Sheldon Brown to use as a
gear calculator, there is no need for improvement. ;)

Dear Peter,

Think of it as a talk show. If you don't want other people
to respond, try a convent with vows of silence. Or email
people privately.

Besides, addressing someone as "David" on rec.bicycles.tech
doesn't really narrow things down much. Look at this list of
the ever-increasing horde:

Abraham, Aggett, Allison, Althoff, Amend, "and Lisa," Auker,

Bailey, Beal, Bell, Binks, Blake, Brichler,

Calhoun, Cannell, Charleson, Chen, Clary,

Damerell, "D," DVT, "Dave," Dave-A, de Schweinitz, Disser,

Ebling, Evans, Feyen, Freeman, Fujii,

"G," Gittins,

"H," Hansen, Harvey, Hayes, Holmes,

Jackson, Jewsbury, Johnson, Jones,

Kahn, Kaufman, Kerber, Kirkpatrick, Korzekwa, Kynor,

LaPorte, Larrington, Le Good, Lehnen, Louw, Lozeau,

Mac, Masino, Mennenoh, Miles,

Novoselsky,

O'Brien, Olson, Ornee, Owers,

Regis, Reuteler,

Salovesh, Sampson, Schroeder, Schurig, Serisky, Smith,

Tan, "the Equipment *****," Thompson, Twinam,

Umterp,

VanderWiel, Vanenbranden, Vincent,

Walker, Waterworth, Weaver, Wenger, Whittle, Wiesenhahn,
Williams, Wilson, Wyman,

Zale

And we have no way to tell how many otherwise
harmless-looking posters use "Dave" as their middle name.

Carl, you left Mark AND Fabrizio off your list.

You have made at least two terrible enemies.

One of whom will deride your fashion sense.

Dear Mark,

If they change their names to "Dave," I'll consider
including them, but with an asterisk to discourage anylone
else from jumping on the DaveWagon.

Dave Brandt? Dave Brown? Dave Muzi? Dave Chisholm? Dave
Dacey? Dave Werehatrack? Dave Beam? Dave Onanian? Dave
Daniels?

[Shudder.]

As for fashion, when I de-ride, my trousseau consists of
elegant rubber sandals, comfortable baggy shorts, and
luridly colored t-shirts, preferably with a pocket on the
front, but never with any logos. Enormous owlish spectacles
complete the ensemble.

In winter, warm-up pants, dark socks, and tennis shoes are
substituted for a layered look.

What's to deride?

Carl, that's no excuse.

It's not that I didn't want Jobst to respond, I was 'looking' at david for an
answer, virtually speaking.

I view this as a bunch of people, at a party, say, in a circle, yaking about
bike stuff.

As for private e-mails...they don't bother me at all but ohhh boy, was I
blasted by Jobst when I sent him an e-mail...yowser, you would think I pounded
on his door at 3am...

Many tubular rims are lighter than similar clincher rims, and in the
past this was almost universally true.

But I've recently heard that Ksyriums, for example, have clincher and
tubular rims of the same weight. The tubs apparently have extra metal
in the edges for denting resistance. Can anyone measure this?

Peter,

That is rather odd since Mr. J. Brandt includes his email address in his
signature line. Maybe you failed to show sufficient obsequious respect
for Mr. J. Brandt's unparalleled cycling knowledge and prowess. ;)

It's probably because he referred to him as Jobst or perhaps Mr. Brandt,
instead of the preferred Jobst Brandt /at Stanford Alumini dot whatever/.

What you fail to mention was that this wasn't private e-mail but
rather a copy of a provocative follow-up posting that appeared to be
private e-mail and to which I wrote a response. Then I saw the same
item in wreck.bike and I realized that it required a different
response and a corrective e-mail in which I explained why I don't
appreciate gratuitous arguments per e-mail when it isn't mail at all.

There is a difference.
