    I recently bought a PT SL second hand. After a 110 miles mass start race last weekend in the worst down-pour you could imagine, I've had some problems with it. The previous owner used it for about 2,500 miles, without any problems (if he didn't lie to me 😕 )

    At first I could get no signal at all, just dashes. I have now dried the wheel with the battery cover off for three days, and this morning I finally got speed and some semi-weird power readings (seemed correct when pedalling, but when not pedalling it showed a wattage proportional to the speed of the wheel). The transmission icon was flashing, so I changed the hub batteries. After that, both power and cadence constantly have been zero ('0', not '---'😉. Speed is ok, at least the values seem to be correct. The transmission icon is on, I am not in cyclecomputer mode, and torque has been zeroed.

    There is actually still water inside the rim, and the room in which the wheel has stood the last days is not especially warm or dry. Because of the water in the rim I guess there is still a big opportunity that there is moisture in the hub, so I will try to dry it a few more days.

    Do you think this is just a moisture issue, or have I got more serious problems with my hub? Anyone that has experienced this or similar issues?

    A little update:
    This evening I got both power and cadence readings. However, they seem to be about a third of what it should be. I'm pretty confident now that this is a moisture issue.

    Do you have any tips on how to avoid moisture on the electronics in the future?

    I just got my PTSL last week, worked great for 6 rides. Today I took it out in the rain, it said my power was 25 watts going up 5% grade hill with HR 160's. Supposedly everything is sealed from moisture in the hub, but I think that's not the case. Maybe the best way to keep moisture from the electronics is to not use it in moisture. I'd hoped that it would be a little more durable than that though 🙁

    Moisture has been a problem with PT hubs for all models up to and including the SL. In fact, pre-production units of the new PT SL2.4 had moisture problems until they went to a new procedure whereby they brush a sealant directly onto the circuit board and connectors in the hub. That seems to have solved the problem. Most people find that their hub works fine after they thoroughly dry it out (e.g., remove the battery cover and leave it in a dry room for 24 hours). The other thing you can do is to make sure you are using an appropriate lubricant on the o-ring. This forms the waterproof seal for the hub. I use a silicone-based lubricant that my LBS recommended. Unfortunately, I don't know the brand name because my LBS gave me a small supply in a plastic bag.
