Subject: PLoS Biology Inaugural Issue Now Available

    Dear Reader,

The Public Library of Science is proud to announce the launch of our first journal, the fully open-
    access PLoS Biology.

PLoS Biology is always freely available online at http://www.plosbiology.org. Because PLoS Biology
is open-access, you can search the full texts of its articles and synopses at PubMed Central at
http://www.pubmedcentral.com. And you can use its content however you want - print it, share it,
link to it, put it in a database, compute on it; all we ask in return is that you cite the
pioneering authors whose work has made the journal possible.

In addition to outstanding peer-reviewed research articles, two of which have already been
highlighted in the New York Times, the inaugural issue of PLoS Biology offers a variety of
additional features for the scientific community.

The journal begins with a message from the founders of PLoS, entitled "Why PLoS Became a Publisher."
It continues with an announcement from the editors describing the rigorous review process they
employ, and goes on to include primers, a community page, an unsolved mystery, and other "front
matter" that enhances the science and makes it more accessible and useful to a broad audience.
