Q re Shimano PD R540 pedals - do these take SPD-SL cleat?

The PD R540 are SPD-SL types - the same as the DuraAce and Ultegra pedals.

It's unfortunate that Shimano did not think out their model #'s a little better, as there is a PD M540 pedal which is an SPD type. Arrrgh!

And, of course, you must have the corresponding cleat type. No mixing and matching here - no way.
