Quill Adapter for Threadless Stems

Does anyone have experice with adapters for using a threadless stem on a old threaded style fork/headset? It looks like a quill with a round end to attach the threadless stem. Do they work?

I have one I'm using on an old bike I strictly use on a trainer in the basement. It slips more easily than a standard quill style stem...
