Race XC MTB with SS?

I was just wondering if anyone has ever attempted to race XC with a light single speed?

I have. 34X18 setup on a 50K point to point race. I got smoked on the road sections, but was super fast and efficient on the singletrack and climbs.

Gearing depends on the race course you intend to ride. For my 29er SS I use a 33X20 gearing which works fine for most of the trails I ride.
