Hi All
I'm a 30 yo male, been cycling for 4 years, only started road racing in the last summer season (here in Aus we race crits all summer Nov - March then have an outdoor season that follows the European summer season). AFter a break after the summer season, I've commenced a periodized training program trying to peak for a 3 week period in September.
Using a pretty reputable peice of software, I've had a training program generated which is updated weekly using a questionnaire and presumable some logic equations thereafter.
Issue is I want to do some road races between now and Septembeer (say one a month), but even for the hard sessions coming up in a month or so, my schedule is only telling me to do say 3 hours in zone 2 (129 - 147 bpm) with 45 mins in zone 4 (162 - 178bpm). So is it ok to do a race and go flat out near my limit and over... I am still in the bottom grade, so there is nowhere to go to make things easier and if I try to stick to the above I will get dropped for sure.
Will training at too high an intensity mess up my plan, or should I just compensate by cutting out one of the other intense workouts in a week where I race?
Tks for any help, great forum.
