Ramblings on and around an ergo rebuild (and a Q)

Greetings -

With nothing but time on my hands due to my shattered collarbone the
rebuild of my front wheel and shattered ergo shifter (from two separate
incidents - this has been a bad year for me in terms of crashing)
occupied my time this weekend.

The ergo rebuild (actually transfer of all the working bits to a fresh
body) went fairly well, although I'll never be as fast as that dude at
Yellow Jersey. I took about an hour and would've been faster but I
didn't properly align a slot in the end of a bushing with it's mate on
the end of the main axle. Once I tightened the bolt that secures the
entire works, I noticed that the shift button had way too much slop.
Consulted the instructions, properly diagnosed my failure and took an
extra 15 min to disassemble/reassemble correctly.

But, hey, I got nothing else to do. They tell me that my clavicle is
way shattered. Gotta go see an ortho - whatsit (can anyone clarify the
name of that specialty for me?) to see if they need to maybe open me up
and do some pinning or other stabilizing repairs.

Hope it turns out we don't have to do surgery.
