I went to the doctor yesterday just to get a prescription rewnewed. A few years ago my doctor moved
from his little suburban office to a downtown clinic. The problem with this is that the support
staff is sometimes reluctant to make actual appointments for him and when they get busy they just
tell his patients to come in on a walk-in basis. So I spent 2 hours in the waiting room, well,
waiting. When I finally got in to see my doctor he was appalled at the wait and gave me some sample
packets of my prescription as an apology. I love my doctor 🙂 Actually he's a wonderful doctor,
which is the only reason I put up with his new office. So all I was there for was my prescription. I
ended up being told to pee in a cup, and getting blood tests and a mono test run. Maybe that would
explain why I've been feeling a little run-down lately!
DF arrives for the holidays sometime on the weekend. He's driving, so what time and even what day he
arrives will depend on the weather and the roads.
I stepped on the scale Wednesday, not really sure why. It read 216. Which I thought was pretty
unusual, since it was 219 on Monday. I checked it again today - still 216. Now to see what it is
this coming Monday for my official weigh-in!
And I discovered something I found very interesting when comparing cookbooks. I have 2 books that
I've been relying on pretty heavily for good recipes since I've started cooking more healthily (is
that a word?). One is the Weight Watchers Simply Delicious Winning Points Cookbook, 2003. The other
is called "Secrets of Low Fat Cooking" by Woodruff, 1995, with most recipes having less than 1 gram
of fat per serving. I was looking for a recipe for Shepherd's Pie and compared the recipes in both
books. The WW recipe makes 6 servings, and has 269 calories, 7 grams of fat, 5g of fiber and comes
to 5 points. The Fat Free Cooking one makes 6 servings, has 265 calories, 3 grams of fat, 5 grams of
fiber and comes to 4.5 points. BTW the WW one has no cheese in it, the FF one does.
I think this cookbook has spoiled me, because when I look through the WW book I keep thinking that
the recipes are higher in points than I thought they should be, or have more fat in them.
I don't know if the FF cookbook is still available anywhere - I got it at a book sale several years
ago. But it's fast becoming my favourite book. There's a Fat Free Desserts cookbook too!
