Ray Warren's commentary at Aussie Champs

I totally agree. And he also said "tumble" for the 'fliers when they
turned. And, what I find most annoying is: "Set" when the swimmers go down
after the "Take your marks" command. Apart from those annoying little
regulars, he says some quite stupid things throughout the commentary.
Quite obviously, he knows stuff-all about swimming.

Wasn't it great when they had Don Talbot doing it?

Yes, I liked Don's mixture of technical knowledge and his dry sense of
humour.

In the 400 IM today he described the swimmers as having come out of
their "tumble" at the 50m mark.

And he doesn't understand the difference between the 4th fastest time
ever, and the 4th fastest swimmer ever. It's really simple - why can't
he manage to understand something so simple?

He frequently calls the wrong swimmer as being in the lead and whinges
when he can't easiloy see who won in a tight finish.
For some reason he's obsessed with comparing the splits with world
record. He doesn't compare rugby league scores with world records, so
why compare swimming times that way?

And my other pet hate, which thankfully Ray hasn't done this time is:
"That's the 4th fastest time by an Australian in the world this year".
Do Australians swim on other planets as well as the world?

I would have thought that he'd have people at the TV station that
would tell him to stop saying these things, but perhaps he's just too
ignorant to listen.

My highlights of the Aussie swim champs:

Did you see Klim's new freestyle stroke? The straight arm recovery has
almost disappeared.

Rickard's 100m breast was a revelation for the Aussies. Finally a male
breaststroker who attacks the 100m as a sprint instead of swimming it
like a 200m. With any luck it might shock the other breaststrokers out
of their complacency.

Alice Mills has stepped up for individual glory after her coaches got
her to put some muscle on that waifish build. I expect that she'll set
a world record in the next couple of years.

My disappointments:

The men's team will battle to put together 4x100free and 4x100medley
relays. Klim swam the only respectable free time. Klim won the 100fly
in a poor time with a large gap to the next swimmer and said that he
won't swim it at worlds because he recognises that his time is too
slow to be competitive at the world level.
