I use a heavy duty U lock and nylon covered cable to secure my Trek
when I have to leave it anywhere. Having said that, I try at all costs
to avoid leaving it anywhere accessible and when I do, I strip
seatpost, lights etc and QR the front wheel to be locked to the frame,
checking the whole lot as regularly as poss.
However, next week I hand back the company car and return to a
cross-London bike/train commute after some years away and, having
pondered similar issues, have used my 'car' allowance to order a
Brompton folding bike (L6) as well as my 5 zone travel card. In this
way, my bike will live under my desk; sit in my shopping trolley; go
into the cinema; be stashed on a cloakroom rather than left for
toe-rags to thieve. Until it arrives, I'll be using the DLR, Tube and
buses to fill in the gaps.
