I don't think it's a "busy" problem.

Some threads act normally, others take 3 minutes to return a reply
form, and only return a blank one. This thread returns the form
immediately, but it's blank.

No telling exactly what is wrong, but it's server-side and it's
probably related to Google's almost nonexistent technical concern for
this heavily-used resource.

They are not writing the References: header, either. But
you are not allowed to complain because you encouraged
them by using their gimcrack nntp-html portal.

I wish everyone used a nntp server and a real news reader.
