Well, let's clarify "getting high". I only use that term to for weed,
which, as I said is but a step to the left or right or ordinary reality,
a mini-vacation, a gentle lifting of the mind. The other sacred plants
however, I must disagree. You are 'messing" with your brain, but I agree
with Aldous Huxley on that--he thought the normal brain has a built-in
'governor" that serves to shut out too much sensory detail that IS in
the real world. The use of psychedelics serves to lift that governor,
allowing one to see an "unedited", true reality. You dont
"hallucinate"--you are able to see what IS really there, layers of
reality that are normally closed to us.

If it's true that we only use 10% of our brains...ya gotta wonder,
    what's that other 90% for?

I think we only barely perceive the world around us with out ordinary
consciousness. We can 'see' the crude elements that have height, width
and depth and have but five physical senses to perceive with. It's easy
to think, "if this is all I can see, then this is all there is", but my
experience indictes that the crude physical world is just a tiny slice,
the base of the pyramnid, so to speak, of all tha's really here.

Nope. Not true. You don't see any other layers of reality, you see
    your own brain's synapses misfiring.

Interruptions in the normal function of the brain often cause feelings
of euphoria or spiritual awakening, whether that interruption comes from
drugs, sleep deprivation, fever, seizure, or physically poking at the
    brain in a laboratory.

If I rub my eyes really hard, I see pretty lights. They aren't actually
there. Nor are your other layers of reality.

    That's not true, that's a myth.

No, that is all there is. Everything we see, touch, feel, experience in
any way is filtered through our brains. We don't see like a camera
sees, certain things will stand out more, given their significance in
our own subjective viewpoints. Drugs don't remove filters, they are
another filter. They make everything feel weird, and if you have
preprogrammed yourself to interpret that as another layer of reality,
then that is what will happen.
