It's not that you will ever actually DO it. It's knowing that you COULD.

Has anyone ever compared the weight of an aluminum "mouse condom" with the
weight of solder needed to replace it?

If you are really dedicated to the idea of soldering cable ends, I suggest
copper plating the ends prior to installation.

I then suggest to cut the cables that short that no mm extrudes to frai
anymore...
