Shot into the light. Just a snap so no time to compensate. Despite my
default setting of -1 stop the detail seems to have gone AWOL. :-(

Pity. -1 should work well most of the time. One thing I noticed when I
got my 300D is that the metering takes far more notice of the sky
compared to my G3. If anything the auto exposures tend to be slightly
too dark, but that's better than burning out the highlights.

Of course I use manual all the time. For most of that day I used 1/250
at f8 at ISO 100, same exposure as for a typical sunny day. Even when
it got dark and rainy it was still the best exposure to capture all the
cloud detail, I even had to put it up to 1/500 a few times, even during
the rain! This does of course mean that I have plenty of dark land in
my pics, but terrific skies! They really were dramatic.

It might interest you that in the Clogwyn-mawr view shot, I made hardly
any alterations to the original, only the smallest of tweaks in fact
(boosted the sat slightly and sharpened it). The RAW shot looks almost
identical. Just in case you thought I'd enhanced the clouds to an
extreme degree, I didn't. They looked just like that in the original
shot.
