You could run a bead of silicone aquarium sealant around the top edge.
It is clear and the color of the paint will show through.

I don't know that it would /damage/ the paint. I'd bet not but you might
test in a small hidden area to be certain I guess.....

As far as what happens when you want to remove the clamp: rubbing
alcohol or mineral spirits can dissolve the silicone, to get off what
you cannot easily scrape off.

Doug,

Where's a hidden area of paint, lol?
I use silicone for everything but have never put
up to painted surface. Silicone has petroleum derivatives so it may be
like spilling mild gas or oil on your paint.

If I can seal it against metal or rubber, like a gasket, held by the
mechanical clamp force it may be a real 'tidy' solution.
The tie wrap / tube interface is my fail-safe method but I appreciate
the idea.
I'll have to think on that some.
