Niko said:I had some technical problems with my Freestyle recently. My wheelset
consists of a Suzue hub, Sun BFR rim and 48 Sapim 14 gauge spokes (2.0
mm). Spokes where popping at a rate of about 1 every two month. Now I
am getting it completely rebuild with 2 crosses instead of 3 and self
securing nipples. Turned out that the hub flanches were bend as well
:eek:My older wheelset had 48 13 gauge spokes (2,3 mm) and a cheapo rim. In
over ten years I had zero problems with the spokes (the square tapper
ruined it in the end, because I stripped the thread). Now I will try to get a completely new 13 gauge wheel again (after
having spend a small fortune on my crappy current wheelset). Personally
I think that every single Freestyle unicycle on the market right now
sucks big time 😠, including frame and especially the seat (Miyata?
Oh please!). Instead of the progress we have seen for trials unicycles
the freestyle ones seem to get worse and worse (climaxing in the
500€ Koxx Singature with a wheel that probably breaks from
breathing at it).End of rant. 😉 🙂
I can tell you, my setup is pretty sick. It is a semcycle XL longneck
frame with a suzue hub, (I think) 14 gauge spokes, an Alex double
walled rim (I also recommend the Alex Xrim), and a KH seat. This setup
is so bomb. I doubt that it can get much better(well, it's not ISIS,
but what are you gona do?).
Most of the places have the semcycle XL longneck frame sold out, but I
think that Bedford has them (not promising anything though, he just
mentioned having them at NAUCC 2007). I also got that wheel set from
him (if you don't want to get it part by part).
Edit: the part "climaxing in the 500€ Koxx Singature with a wheel
that probably breaks from breathing at it" made me laugh. Very amusing.
