This is not so far out of line. The only thing that I would not do is
pull the old headset out by twisting it with a pipe wrench. I use a
copper pipe as a drift, and tap it out on the inside edges. using copper
pipe keeps it from damaging the headset or the frame.
I use a (wooden jawed) bench vice to press the cups in. Works fine, and
is a bit gentler than this method.
Using an old crown race to drift on the new one works well. I again use
my copper pipe for this along with the old race. I don't like the
screwdriver to drift off the race; I'd rather use something softer
like wood or more copper pipe.
