I picked up a very similar type of bike in a street cleanup.
Probably not a Trek... had been repainted.
Riding around I found it a bit "bouncy" and discovered that the stay had
completely snapped at the same point as yours, but on the drive side : )
I am reasonable at TIG welding bike tubing and I joined and painted this
break, as well as some splits where the stay indenting machine had left
some cracking. I wonder how often this gets painted over?
The repairs stand up well, tho I wouldn't do DH riding.
I did not like to sand the fillet right down, so it shows if you look hard.
Really like the way this bike fits so I ride it a lot.
