That is true, Dr. Rose and has been discussed here in the past. What happens is that doctors have been lead to believe that altering cholesterol profiles with other statins is beneficial to patients. Then, the doctors are left to INFER that, since Lipitor does the same thing, it must have the same benefit. It works!

No, I am not saying that. I am saying some people have been led to believe that.
There have been studies published which suggest that altering cholesterol profiles help prevent and/or postpone some coronary heart disease events. There have been no fewer than three books written which strongly suggest that cholesterol considerations have, at best, been strongly exaggerated.
Lipitor's disclaimer was probably forced upon them. Why else would it show up so prominently on their website?
To summarize the situation, and I do try to remain open minded, is that the cholesterol detractors have far more (and higher quality) information in their favour than the cholesterol believers.

No one can say that cholesterol is not involved in the process. So are fat and blood and platelets, and white blood cells and cells lining the arteries and probably a whole lot more. (Am somewhat surprise that no one has come up with a drug to reduce the number of platelets. They are heavily involved in blood clots causing heart attack.)
What the detractors have discovered is that reducing serum cholesterol has little or nothing to do with improving heart health outcomes. Indeed, in large publicly funded trials, NO effect is found. Effect is only found in industry funded trials. Often there is no statistically significant mortality benefit.
For a partial explanation for this last paragraph, do see my other post on "The Piper." It might help to explain the cholesterol dichotomy (which some expert suggests does not exist).

P.S. Some say the slight benefits are due to anti-inflammatory properties of statins rather than cholesterol lowering or altering.
