I think cyclists who jump lights and cycle on pavements make things worse in two ways. First, they are responsible for motorists thinking of cyclists as irresponsible lawbreakers, not deserving of respect on the roads. Secondly, motorists who are used to seeing cyclists on the pavement sometimes start to think that that's where cyclists belong, so they resent our presence on the road even more than they otherwise would.
