Depends where and how you ride. I find that country lanes are often wet
and muddy even if it hasn't rained for days.

I can't say the difference in weight and wind resistance is noticeable
for me, although I don't ride at anything approaching racing speeds.
In short, I consider the advantages of mudguards to far outweigh any
disadvantages, especially when those disadvantages seem largely notional.
