Well, I admit I do feed my dogs kibble, not that I necessarily feel it's the
best thing for them, but because anything else I've ever tried has always
given them major diarrhea, and frankly I can't live with that. With kibble
they don't have a problem, and I pour a little meat and meat juice over the
top for flavor, and they can handle that ok.

Treats are great, but anytime I give them treats they get diarrhea too,
though not as badly as my previous dog. So for my own sanity, and for my
house, and for my pocketbook, I feed them kibble - but as long as I do I'd
like to make sure it's the best one I can feed them. The one I chose had the
fewest objectionable ingredients, and the highest protein, of all the ones I
could find easily at the pet food store. I love my dogs, but I don't have
time to do extensive shoppin for them, or cooking for them. Heck, most of
the time I don't even cook for myself. :-)

So I just hope I can find the "best" thing I can for them that's easily
available, but "best" is surely so subjective that I have no clue what to do
anymore. :-)

Who do you think sponsors all the vet education/seminars/freebies, etc.?

True, but who else does any actual research on the subject? When my
vet, who is fabulous with my animals and has taken wonderful care of
them makes a recommendation, I have to give it more weight than my own
feelings based on what I've read in a diet book for humans. Besides,
the dog is obviously feeling much better these days, so I have to just
go with it.

Oh, I agree with you 100%.

I couldn't imagine trying to feed my animals (or my son when he was little)
without doing a little research.

Of off the top of my head I am not sure how many books on canine nutrition are
in my libray, but I know that I have at least a half a dozen different ones
plus coursebooks.

When I suggested reading human diets books simultaneously with books written by
researchers/vets on canine nutrition I was trying to pair up authors who had
similar styles, not suggesting that people only read the book for humans.

I am so happy to hear that your pooch is doing well on what you are giving her
because that is the most important thing of all🙂Robyn

You might look at http://www.oldmotherhubbard.com
and see where you can find Wellness kibble and canned in your area.
It has no corn, wheat, or rice in it, and meats without meat
"by-products".

My cats used to either throw up or get diarrhea from anything other
than Science Diet dry, but they are doing great on the Wellness canned
since LeMieux became diabetic, and my new vet feeds Wellness dry to her
own pets.
