First of all I should tell you that I'm not following a low carb diet
(from time to time I do wonder if low carb would work better for me in
the long run.) Anyway, I've heard there are 'good' carbs and 'bad'
carbs...I suppose good carbs are in fruit, vegetable, dark bread and
bad carbs are in white bread, sugar and so on.
I have been wondering about honey though. Is it considered to be a good
carb or a bad carb?
Thanks
If you have to classify things in terms of "good" and "bad", I'd suggest you
consider food items that way.
Carbs, in and of themselves, aren't bad. Low carbers all get some carbs. But
certain foods, depending on how they fit with one's overall diet, can tend
to have a "good" impact on health or a "bad" impact on health. All "carby"
foods tend to be in that latter group.
Unless you're very athletic, any type of bread (a carby food) is going to be
bad unless you're very controlled in your use of it. Hence, bread is bad,
as is sugar.
Generally, fruits are okay (in moderation??) but not juice. Fibrous veggies
are good (not a carby food). Starchy veggies are bad (generally carby
foods). Most any whole unprocessed food is okay if you don't consume too
much. And if you're overweight, you're probably consuming too much.
Generally speaking, small amounts of honey aren't necessarily bad. Large
amounts of honey (% caloriewise) could be very bad.
From a low-carb-centric POV, honey is bad, IMO, unless used perhaps for carb
up in maintain/enhance athletic performance.
