Benjo Maso did a lot of the research for the movie called Tour Des
Legends. You can see him listed in the end credits. He spent some time in
the Library archives of France and spoke with Serge Laget, one of the main
archive historians for L'Equipe and 100 years of the tour
(http://tinyurl.com/348hul). Benjo spent many hours in the historical
libraries of France and L'Equipe working on the documentation for the film
calledTour Des Legendes which is about the Tour De France of 1948 and Gino
Bartali famous exploits being the only man to win the TDF 10 years after
winning it previously before the war.
What's more: I had the honor to be received by 15 ex-riders who had
participated in the Tour of 1948, and even by Jacques Goddet, 94 years old,
but still very astute ("Merckx was the best rider of all time, but Coppi was
better"😉.
