I was going to do exactly that, but I wouldn't call it an "invention."
However, I was simply going to call it a "translator" rather than a
multiplier or a scaler. Why is the "de-" put in front of the word
multiplier?

It shouldn't be too hard to do, but it isn't entirely trivial.

<CONJECTURE>
The input (at the shifter lever) is some multiple
either greater or less than one of the output (at the
derailleur) This device obviates the need for "some
multiple" so it is a DE-multiplier
