Look, don't start that again. Here's an experiment that you can try at
home: take an old cycle helmet, prop it up on its side, pile books (or
other weights) on top of it until it breaks. Now lie down on the floor
and put the same weight of books on your skull. Does it break? No. Does
it even hurt? No. Your skull is many times stronger than a cycle
helmet.
Polystyrene foam isn't magic. It's a fairly weak plastic which can
absorb a certain amount of energy by crushing. In the sort of accident
which spreads your brain all over the road, a cycle helmet isn't going
to make any difference at all.
