| Any training advice for a first timer on Mt. Washington?
|
| I'm just hoping to run it this year, not "race" it. But I would like
| to do some hill training and other specific work to help me get up it.
|
| For those unfamiliar with Mt. Washington, "the Auto Road is 7.6 miles
| in length, has an average grade of 11.5% with extended sections of
| 18%, and the last 50 yards is a 22% "wall" to the finish. The course
| rises 4650 vertical feet from start to finish." From <http://

Congratulations on your entry, I wasn't enough lucky to get in.
I ran a 6% 8 mile smaller race (2400' gain, up hill only) last year
without knowing what to expect.
They only had 2 water stops, not adequate for an uphill.
Hopefully Mt. W is better equipped.
Obviously you need more fluids and carbs to keep up energy level.
I ran all the way up, but a more experienced guy passed me
with his run/walk near the end, makes a case for walking breaks
if you haven't done much uphill running.
