A WORLD champion unicyclist was in the Top End yesterday practising
balancing acts.
Simon Wells, who won a silver medal in Tokyo last year, is a competitor
at this year's Australian National Unicycling Championships.
The 19-year-old professional entertainer from Noosa took up the sport
when he was eight to outdo his siblings, who could juggle.
"It's an easy way to get attention," Mr Wells said. "Once you get it you
feel like you're doing the impossible, which is a high. It's always
exciting to learn new stuff."
Mr Wells has played hockey and competed in races at the championship,
which is being held at Marrara.
In Japan, cyclists compete in 42 km marathons but Mr Wells is happy to
peddle 10 km.
