Fact is, I'm full-tilt into endurance-weenie land and really ought not show my face in this group, but I wanted to wave as I sped by.

Everybody has to find their own thing. You may start out wanting to body-build but find you like endurance training more, or vice versa. I serve two masters---lifting and bicycling, which are counterproductive. But I like 'em both so I don't care if I never become really outstanding at either.

I like riding bike but don't do it now because of the dog. I know, I could have him run along side but it seems to be too much of a hassle so I don't bother. Plus, I wouldn't get much exercise as I'd have to ride at a much slower rate. It'd be good for the pooch, I suppose. Hmmm, maybe I'll give it a try.

I'm having the same problem with the bike: my Lab loves to run with me. Furthermore, my 12 year old son likes to ride his mountainbike with me while I run on the trails. Sadly, his cycling pace is about my running pace on his knobby little mountainbike wheels, and trying to cycle with him was painful. (His top speed is about my slowest speed without toppling over.)
So running works in my life. Cycling is taking more effort.
For Mother's Day I told the kids I want to go out on a Rail Trail with them on bikes. I think I'm going to have to rollerblade, though, as I just go too fast for them when I'm on my bike.

I've also got that 3-4 days a week powerlifting thing that gets in the way. I'll be taking a short break after Masters Nationals so that might be an excellent time to try it. BTW, I ride a mountain bike.

This is good advice; unless you are training for something specific then it is better to be engaged in something you enjoy doing, rather than slavishly adhering to a training programme that is repetitive and boring.
In my own situation I train with weights three times a week to maintain strength and mobility, but spend the rest of my week's free time on a number of diverse physical activities, which vary throughout the course of the year.
