    Hi all,

I want a new waterproof. The follow characteristics seem desirable:

    - It should be waterproof (somewhat unlike my current one)
    - It should be breathable (decidedly unlike my current one)
    - It should have a hood which stays up even when riding into a stiff wind
    - It should have a convenient pocket for maps, eg a large breast pocket

    Hi,
One thing I will say is if you haven't bought a goretex or other
breathable jacket before you might be disappointed in just how much
perspiration they can move. I have two jackets now and both get sweaty
unless the weather is quite cold. That said, how much more sweat would
build up in a non-breathable jacket could be considerably more but without
a scientific test it's just guessing.

This aside, I like my Endura commuter jacket in fluoro yellow,it's
breathable(not goretex), has vented pits, mesh lining and a big rear
pocket for keys et al. It will just about take a fold up OS map too.
    Doesn't have a hood though.

    Regards
    Wayne.
