Is this something to do with our former colony which has been going
downhill since 1776?

We found it rather horrifying that the 2004 election was decided on the
issues of gay marriage and abortion, rather than any concerns about the
economy, the Middle Eastern debacle, the environment or the security of
energy supplies.

Indeed, I remain astonished that the party that considers itself the
defender of the moral high ground is the one that thinks it's clever
to declare war on and invade foreign nations on the basis of
trumped-up charges.

On the bright side, I did get round to reading up how the presidential
election system works. Wow. And they manage to call it a democracy
with a straight face.
