Which is true for just about all professions requiring a license,
including my own. I was incredibly ignorant when I got out of school-
some would say that is still the case (and sadly they might not be

Terry Pratchett, in his Discworld books, has facetiously opined that
Universities act as de facto repositories of knowledge in a manner
that is not generally recognized. As evidence of this, he puts forth
the observation that a great many students arrive at universities
secure in the belief that they know a great deal, and depart with the
realization that after four (or more) years, they know relatively
little. During that time, obviously, there must have been a net flow
of knowledge from them into the University, where it remains.
