"When someone who is intelligent and educated enough to know better
supports a regime that commits illegal conquests of sovereign countries,
ignores its own constitution, tortures prisoners, implements a creeping
police state domestically, and shows a general contempt for justice,
human rights, the environment, long term planning, and the rule of law,
there is no longer any point in having a discussion with them, other
than for entertainment purposes.
Therefore, I choose to be facetious."
I don't suppose you'd care to actually debate any of those "point?" Right.
I thought not.
Well, when a supposedly intelligence person ends up crafting talking points
that have been used by the very folks sawing off the heads of civilians in
Iraq, in open opposition to the establishment of the first Arab regime that
honors the rule of law, by citizens willing to risk their lives to cast a
vote, and who characterizes a president who'd rather pay a small price now,
than an enormous price later, for the common defense... willing, indeed, to
put his own presidency on the line for the sake of principle... as a
criminal, well... I can see why you might not want to debate any of those
fine points. But you're a very long way from a Democrat like "give 'em hell
Harry."
(And don't bother bringing up the Hiroshima/Nagasaki meme. The fact is that
Japan damn near didn't surrender even after that. Harry read that situation
perfectly.)
