Anyone want to offer an opinion as to whether they are genuine or not?

Sasha

Here's my opinion (all care, no responsibility):

They are real, it's a bike shop selling off all the stuff that noone bought through winter at close to cost to get rid of them.

It's bad form to wear a Rainbow jersey or any other prize jersey if you haven't won it. Hence, noone bought the rainbow jersey jacket, now the bike shop wants to get rid of it to make way for the summer range.

Note the other jackets are all an ugly red color, hence noone bought them either.

If you're looking for cheap ugly cycling gear, there's a place in Elwood that specialises in it.......

lol, looks real, although ugly

on the whole rainbow jersey, i have a gold quickstep jersey to celebrate bettini's gold medal in athens last year. its pretty rare and took me a while to get one (from the US).

since ive never one a medal at the olympics, is this bad form?

yeah... and what about all the people that ride with jerseys of their favourite teams, but dont ride for those teams.... is that bad form as well ? The jersey I wear is of my own company, lucky I work for them...! :)

I agree though, one of the ugliest things I have seen.... I think that was the reason it was never bought....

No, but you won't be alllowed to race Opens in them.

Yes, bad form.

Rainbow jersey's aren;t awarded at the Olympics, they're awarded at the world championships...

You can ignbore the conventions of the sport as long as you like, just don't come back and post when you can't seem to breakaway from races...

Only "new to cycling" riders wear yellow/sprinters/climbers/rainbow jerseys.... Hence, you'll see a lot of them in D grade, and none in A grade, becuase the A graders get to race with the good guys, and show them the respect they deserve.

I wear a yellow jersey on the road just for the visibility factor. I
wouldn't wear anything earned like that in a race though (if I ever raced).
Hell, I'd feel like a ****** wearing the rainbow jersey on the road, which
is a pity because it's funky looking. Mind you, horizontal stripes is not a
look I should be chasing.

I've been tempted to buy a polka dot jersey to ride in the Sunday BR's.
At least it would give me something to laugh at as I grind my way to the
top.

I agree, they are very ugly items of clothing. Shouldn't stop cyclists from
buying them though, judging by some of the ugly **** I see cyclists wearing
on most Sundays.

I recently heard of Chinese counterfeiters manufacturing ripoff
hiking/climbing gear (such as North Face Gortex jackets), so for a moment I
thought they were doing the same with cycling stuff. However your theory
makes perfect sense. This stuff is really awful.

I think I know the place you are talking about in Elwood (does the colour
Orange mean anything here?), but I think they have put their prices up since
I was last there, so you can take the cheap out of the "cheap ugly"
equation...

My jerseys are yellow, but they're not "the" yellow jersey. Big
difference!

Wearing any "prize" jersey you haven't actually won, is
bad form, IMO. Different from trade team jerseys, that's
supporting a team (of sorts). If you think of the prize
jerseys as being trophies, it will make sense.

You sure they're ripping them off, or just selling the stuff
directly rather than via TNF's chanels :)

Yeah, my yellow jersey isn't "the" yellow jersey. I'd probably still pick a
non-yellow one to race in though.

Damn fashions. I can't tell what's ugly and what's not. Hell, I wear
a helmet mirror :)

Oh, and an ugly orange bandana.

It's a bad coincidence that the Tour leader jersey is yellow because
that discourages the average rider from wearing yellow lest they be
thought to be showing off. Yellow (especially the "netti yellow") is the
most visible colour we have. The reds and blues simply don't stand out
at a distance.

It's not so much yellow. Dammit, I have always had the urge to wear a
polka dot jersey, and I am told that some weird competition uses it
for their mountain climbers, and hence it is bad form to wear
otherwise!

So, your ozzie sprinter dude that races in the world champs colour, if you support him can you ride in that shirt then, since he does? Same logic as you support your team?

Naah, I think that one is pink dots on white.
Visit your local Spotlight and look in the polypil section. There are
lots of variations on polka dots. I personall like the furry black dot
on hot pink {:).

The TdF Yellow Jersey, The green, the world champs jerseys etc are
trophies. They're jerseys you earn the right to wear. Trade team
kit is like wearing your local footbal team jersey. It's a
uniform, not a trophy.

The difference is one of degree, if you want to be pedantic. But,
it's a big degree! It's a social convention, if you
prefer to call it that.

Claes, you can wear whatever you want to wear, these are
just social guides amongst road racers. If you want to
wear a TdF yellow jersey, all power to you. Don't
be suprised though if on a bunch ride you receive some
advice re your choice of clothing!
