Can anyone recommend a new or secondhand road race bike that I can get for winter use. Looking for:

Drop Handlebars, STI shifters Sora gears, preferably Tiagra or better??? Mudguards or ability
to add them.

Using Hybrid so far this winter, missing my Scott Pro Road Bike but keeping it for those sunny
spring days, well one can dream.

Cheers, John

Indeed, and a certain shop in bridgewater shoved mudguards on and hoiked up the price, but they
could be older models. Does the basic giant have mudguard clearance?

I've seen Ribbles for 500 quid with Xenon and mudguards, but if its for sloshing about in winter I
wouldn't want to spend that much.

Me... tight??

They told me the 2003 price is £36 including postage and that they come with the fitting kit. I am
expecting them any day now and report what they are like, how they fit and the total price in a new
thread. Watch this space!

Dawes Giro range. Plenty of local dealers to see & try new ones, and there are secondhand ones
around. See: www.dawescycles.com/bikes

Last couple of year's catalogues state they have mudguard clearance, although there's no mention of
this on the current website - so I don't know if this spec has changed.

Ho Hum, mudguard clearance...my favourite subject!!!!!

For those interested I have just ordered a set of the NEW Salmon guards (the ones that go 'over' the
rear brake) direct from the manufacturer in France. My LBS's said they couldn't/wouldn't get them in
for this year so I had to go direct. Salmon's online ordering facility was up sh*t creek so I had to
do the transaction via email with a company where it seems only a little English is known. Following
some hilarious Babel Fish translations I received the email "hello expedition is done yesterday" on
Saturday so I'll send an update as and when they arrive.DS"

Cheers

I'll be very interested in those mudguards. Are they £34 + p&p for a pair and do you get all the
necessary attachments with them ?

Hope they work out for you.
