Recommended non-skin tight shorts

Just wondering what recommendations there are out there for a pair of summer cycling shorts that are not skin tight.

I have a pair of Altura Altitude shorts, which are quite good but they're simply too bulky. I'm after something that gives the skin tight comfort of lycra but also has a natural look.

I had a pair of cannondale shorts that had a seperate insert with chamois and then a light, breatheable outer short. This worked pretty well and I guess I'm after something similar.

I bought those Altura shorts but have never worn them on the bike for the
reason you describe - they are like giant nappies. I wear a pair of lycra
shorts or b*bshots with a pair of Polaris Nexus shorts over them which are
"normal" looking. The Nexus shorts on their own are too short (i.e. high up
the leg) when riding, but teamed with lycra cycling shorts look OK together.

Me too. Baggies are completely style free - Altura, null points.
Fortunately I'm happy in lycra.

How about padded undershorts? Just wear them under your favourite
stylish shorts.

I've been pondering some Endura MT500 baggies for MTB'ing where I'll be
in and out of cafes and trains.

I don't find the Nexus shortness a problem - a comfortable pair of shorts
that is neither skin tight nor bulky and has useful pockets. The waist line
that drops in the front does need hiding with a shirt though.

I got bought a pair of cycling shorts with padded altura inners. I now wear the inners with any of my non-cycling shorts and seem to get the comfort and can go to meetings at work, certain pubs where I might not wanna normally go in lycra etc.

Those Polaris Nexus shorts that you refer to look pretty good actually.

However, a pair of lycra with those over the top? When it gets above 20, that'd be too much I reckon.

The thing to do would be to find a good pair of inners that come with a decent chamois to go underneath them.

I used to be shy about lycra - but it doesn't take long to realise that
people are very admiring of what you have on show or don't notice at all.
No one has ever expressed visible offence.
