Lately there has been alot of talk about use of illegal drugs to increase your red blood count.

However there are many ways to do this naturally, without any side effects or risks involved with drugs.

Its a herb plant called Rhodiola rosea.

You can buy this in tablet form and read just some of the research here: www.genn.co.uk/rhodiolarosea.pdf

Well its strange then, because i have noticed some improvement. Particuarly VO2. I'm using pure Rhodiola in liquid form.

Actually Ric, whilst we are on the subject I've also had really good muscle gains using Tribulus Terrestris, so maybe its something else in my training programme improving performance. Maybe I will stop the Rhodiola and see what effects it has.

Since we have almost ruled out that Rhodiola possibly has no benefit, can you suggest something which does increase rbc?

Thanks,
Steve

No tribulus definitely works - does not affect rbc, but does increase testosterone and help build muscle.

I do hard endurance training, I ride 5 days a week for 5-7 hours non-stop each day.

I dont really agree that gains cannot be noticed from increasing rbc.

Basically, i believe that there are ways to increase performance naturally and that whilst training hard and eating right will give gains, its possible to gain even more.

So surely we should keep an open mind......

More like a placebo effect... you think you have something that works so you think it works!!

I WISH tribulus worked! Have you done a blood test to see if your testosterone count really increased? I am fairly sure my testosterone is on the low side since I struggle to make any muscle gains in the gym and/or improve on the bike compared to so many others. If it worked, I'd sure give it a shot.

But it works both ways Ric. The research proving it does not work is just as flawed in my opinion.

Tribulus does work, some my say not and unfortunately there is a lack of OFFICIAL scientific research, however this is not to say it does not work.

You could try L-Arginine - 10 grams per day, it has been shown to increase body's release of the growth hormone.

Sure, when administed in great amounts via IV injection in conjunction with ornithine. Even so, the elevated GH levels are fleeting at best.

As far the propaganda one may read regarding oral administration of amino acids to release GH, most of the referenced studiers are taken out of context and twisted into ad copy. Consider the 'fine print':

Actually its not the fault of Tribulus, ikn principle it works. Unfortunately the reason many people dont have results is because there are so many **** standardized versions out there, which contain very tiny amounts of the active components.
