I've got a bit of a problem removing a worn brake disc from a hub. I managed to get 3 of the bolts out, but 3 won't budge and i think i've damaged the heads of two of them to the point where the tool is useless.
The only thing i can think of is filing the heads of the bolts down so i can lift the disc off. Then i'll have a couple of mm of bolt left protruding from the hub that i can grab with a pair of pliers. I'm guessing the bolts won't be anywhere near as stiff once the disc is off.
Has anyone ever tried this or has anyone got any better suggestions?
You can take it to your LBS to see if they have a tool for stripped heads. Or you could try your local Hardware store. Craftsman makes a set of heads for stripped screw heads, it is possible that they might work.
Screw extractors work, but first I would soak the assembly in penetrating oil. Look for products with "super-lube with teflon" in the product name. Liquid Wrench and Permatex both make excellent "super-lube with teflon".
