Can anyone enlighten me on how to remove the front forks off an MTB?? I'm helping my mate strip down his old bike but we're stuck when it comes to getting the forks off. We've taken off the headset and the circlip on top of the fork.

What type of fork has a circlip there? I've worked with at least five different forks and none had a circlip. A pic or a closer description of the parts you're looking at might be needed here. Is the bike old enough to have a threaded fork?
